COOP COAST is a design & research unit within the graduate diploma school of CSA*. Over the course of the academic year 2010/11 the studio is investigating the political, socioeconomic and spatial realities of coastal towns, both in Kent and across the English Channel. Oscillating between macro and micro scales, between urban and rural, temporal and typological conditions, the studio embraces strategic and activist design practices alike; and will explore the potential for cooperative action within the realms of regional design, programmatic urbanism and performative architecture.

Check out the Zeekracht website

"Zeekracht is a not-for-profit cooperative, initiated by the Dutch Society for Nature and Environment. The word 'Zeekracht' is a combination of the words 'zee' (sea) and 'kracht' (force, power) to demonstrate our aim to provide all Dutch households with sustainable electricity from the North sea in 2020. Zeekracht intends to build its own wind turbines to supply its members with clean, sustainable energy. Furthermore, Zeekracht will put pressure on the Dutch government for the development of more wind power on the North sea. More off-shore wind power can significantly reduce CO2-emissions and our dependence on foreign energy sources.[...] The world-famous architect Rem Koolhaas has prepared a masterplan for the development of wind power on the North Sea. Wind power from the North Sea can provide as much energy as the oil from the Persian Gulf now. The master plan pinpoints areas for an international ring of wind parks in connection with shipping areas as well as nature areas and recreational regions."
